Spotlight Breed French Bulldog

Spotlight Breed: French Bulldog

Our Spotlight Breed of the week is the French Bulldog, also known as the Frenchie!  If we had to sum of the Frenchie in three words, they would be adaptable, playful, and smart.  This breed ranks in the top 10 of breed popularity on American Kennel Club.  With large bat eats and even disposition, the French Bulldog is one of the world’s most popular dogs, especially for city dwellers.  The Frenchie is a true ball of fire and we are excited to tell you more!

The Frenchie resembles a miniature bulldog, except for their large, “bat ears” which happen to be a trademark feature.  Their heads are large and square, with heavy wrinkles rolled above the extremely short nose.  The body beneath the smooth, brilliant coat is compact and muscular.  The Frenchie is a true charmer, at best!  They don’t bark much but please do not let that fool you.  They are super alert which makes them excellent watchdogs.  They easily adapt to life with singles, couples, and families too.

Grooming for the French Bulldog is minimal as they do not shed much.  However, they do need the occasional bath to promote new hair growth and distribute skin oils throughout the coat to keep it healthy.  A walk around the neighborhood or an outdoor play session will keep the Frenchie in shape.  If you want to keep it interesting and fun, Frenchie’s love agility training!  Just watch the breathing as they are prone to difficulties due to their flat faces.  Early socialization is important for the French Bulldog and their adaptation.  They have HUGE personalities, so it is best to start training while they are young.  They can be stubborn, but at the end of the day they are huge people pleasers and are easily motivated by food! If you are looking for a great, low-maintenance companion dog then the Frenchie is for you!

Here is some Advice from a French Bulldog.  Never judge someone by their size.  Short legs make the climb more rewarding.  A sad face is more powerful than begging!
