Picnic Planning for Dogs 101

Picnic Planning for Dogs 101

We are at the best time of the year when the sun shines and the weather is perfect. Picnics with your four-legged friend at a local park (or in your backyard) is a great bonding experience. However, it would be best to consider some things before planning the outing. We are here to help with tips on having a fun and safe picnic with your dog!

  1. You must choose a good location. You are ready to plan your picnic, and it is crucial that you find a place that is dog-friendly. We do not recommend having a picnic in an off-leash area as other dogs may interfere, causing stress.

  1. Areas with shade are ideal. The last thing you want to do is plan the picnic in an area with much direct sunlight. Look for a shady spot for the picnic, which will help you and your four-legged friend stay cool.

  1. It’s time to pack your picnic basket. Pack things for you and your dog. It is okay for your four-legged friend to enjoy some of your “human” food. However, you do not want to feed them a lot of it. Focus on things that your dog is used to eating. Feel free to pack treats as well!

  1. Hydration, hydration, hydration. Any time you spend time with your dog outdoors, you must take plenty of water to avoid dehydration!

  1. Pack some toys for playtime. Picnics aren’t just about eating. You can have some fun, too, by packing your dog’s favorite toys. A game of fetch may be fun after eating to burn off some calories!

  1. Up-to-date ID tags are a must. Make sure that your dog’s ID tags are up to date. You may not anticipate your dog running away, but strange things have happened, and it’s always good to be prepared.

You should know that there are many things to consider before going on a picnic with your four-legged friend! Pack your favorite blanket and dog bed to ensure you and your dog are comfortable. We hope that you have a fantastic picnic with your dog!
