Working from Home with Dogs: How to Keep Them Quiet and Entertained
More and more people are working from home, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic. Peace and quiet are essential when it comes to remote work. If you have a dog, this may be challenging to achieve. Behavioral problems will persist unless you change your dog’s behavior. Below are some ways you can accomplish this while working from home.
Designate a Dog Spot – You probably have an office of your own while you work from home. You can also give your dog a special place. Find a quiet space away from foot traffic.
Take Ownership of Your Space – More than likely, your dog is typically free to go where they choose. In most cases, this is perfectly fine, but it can be challenging if you need personal space during work. Train your dog to understand that your office is off-limits. Be consistent and not let them in, even during evenings and weekends.
Routines are Important – A routine can be helpful to you and your dog. Even if you are not on a strict schedule, providing structure during the day can prevent your dog from getting stressed, missing a meal, or becoming bored of inactivity.
Toys Can Make a Difference – Our four-legged friends can play alone with the right resources. Noise-making toys are probably not the best option, especially if you are on an important call for work!
With these tips, you can keep your pets from interrupting your workday. You may also consider doggie daycare a few times a week! This will allow your dog to socialize with other dogs while getting plenty of exercise throughout the day. If your dog becomes used to seeing you daily, you may need to deal with separation anxiety, which may require additional training.
