Spotlight Breed Goberian

Spotlight Breed: Goberian

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week. We are excited to help you learn more about a fun and unique dog breed from around the globe! Our spotlight breed of the day is the Goberian. The Goberian is a mixed breed dog – a cross between the Golden Retriever and Siberian Husky dog breeds. If we had to choose three words to summarize this breed, we would select friendly, intelligent, and energetic! However, there is much more to learn, so please continue reading.

Goberians are some of the best family dogs in the world. They are extremely friendly and have excellent temperaments. Overall, they enjoy being around people! However, one thing you should know about the breed is that they are not well suited for a small home or apartment. As you can imagine, dogs like Golden Retrievers and Siberian Huskies dwell on mental and physical stimulation. Being a mix of the two breeds, the Goberian needs adequate space to thrive. Inadequate areas may result in destructive behaviors.

We mentioned earlier that the Goberian is a family dog. They love to form strong bonds with their pack. The good news is that the breed is also kid-friendly, and they do well around other dogs. You may run into some hurdles when it comes to interaction with strangers. The Goberian may become anxious and unsure. However, proper obedience and socialization training will help them strengthen their skills.

Training is hit or miss for the Goberian. They are intelligent and have no problem showing you what they are capable of. However, the breed needs additional time, patience, and repetition during training sessions. They can form an association between a prompt (sit), an action (sitting), and a consequence (getting a treat), but it will take time. Often, the Goberian has a “what’s in it for me?” attitude. This is where positive reinforcement will come into play. The breed loves to be rewarded for a job well done!

The Goberian has a prey drive like no other. Anything whizzing by, such as cats, squirrels, or even cars, can trigger this instinct. Dogs with a high prey drive need to be leashed or kept in a fenced area outdoors. The breed also has a high potential for wanderlust. Nordic dogs such as Siberian Huskies were bred to range long distances, so the Goberian follows suit.

Are you looking for an intelligent and loving dog breed? If so, the Goberian may be for you! We will leave you with our favorite quote about the breed: “Once someone has had the good fortune to share a true love affair with a Goberian, one’s life and one’s outlook is never quite the same.”
