Spotlight Breed: Goberian

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week. This is where we feature a fun and interesting dog breed from around the globe! We are excited to spotlight the Goberian today. This is a mixed breed – a cross between the Golden Retriever and Siberian Husky. They inherit some of the best qualities from both of their parents. They are energetic, friendly, and smart, but there is so much more to learn about them!

Given the fact that the Goberian is highly energetic and active, they are not well-suited for a small home or an apartment. Ideally, this breed will live in a larger home with a fenced in yard. This will help them reach all areas of mental and physical stimulation along the way! The Goberian is the type of breed that forms a close bond with their “pack”. Therefore, they shouldn’t be left alone for long periods of time. An anxious dog can be very destructive by barking, chewing, and causing mayhem. This is a breed that does best when a family member is home during the day or if you can take them to daycare.

This breed is friendly for the most part. They are affectionate with family, kids, and other dogs. However, you may run into issues when it comes to strangers. They may be shy, indifferent, or aggressive toward them. Keep in mind that a dog like the Goberian who is well-socialized and exposed to a variety of people as a puppy will respond better to strangers as an adult.

You may run into issues when training a Goberian. Although they are intelligent, they have a “what’s in it for me?” type attitude. This is when you will need to use rewards and games to teach them to want to comply with your requests. Keep in mind that this breed has a very high prey drive. This means that if they see something that they want, they will do whatever it takes to go after it! With this said, you will need to keep them always leashed and/or in a fenced in area.
