Taking the Best Picture of Your Dog!

Taking the Best Picture of Your Dog!

Who does not love a good dog picture?  It may be a challenge to take the best one, but there are some tricks you can learn to improve your dog photography.  Whether you want a selfie or a post for social media, follow some of our steps to be on your way to a perfect pet picture!

  1. Natural Light – First of all, flash photography will not result in permanent damage to your bet.  However, flash may frighten some animals and cause them to be afraid of the camera.  With this being said, opt for natural lighting!  Try taking your photo in mid-morning or late afternoon when the light is naturally golden and filtered.  If you are taking the pictures inside the house, avoid direct lighting.
  2. Comfort is Key – Pets are naturally curious, especially in new situations.  If you are planning a formal photoshoot, you will need to allow time for your pet to get used to the equipment and process.  Avoid distractions and provide reassurance and praise.  Make it a fun activity for you and your pup!
  3. Be Patient – You need to realize that it is impossible for your dog to take a bad picture.  They will always be cute in and out of photos!  However, to get the perfect shot, you will need to be patient.  Try different poses and try holding their favorite toy or treat to gain their attention.  Take lots of photos so that you have plenty to choose from when it comes to posting on social media or selecting the best print.  Let your pet act naturally, that way, you will capture their big personality!
