Small Apartment Living with An Energetic Dog

Small Apartment Living with An Energetic Dog

Living in a small space can be challenging at times.  Less storage equals fewer belongings and some innovative thinking.  Add a dog or two on top of that makes for a very interesting experience!  If you have an active dog who loves to be on the good, you may run into issues on how to address their high activity level.  We have compiled a list of ways that you can keep your energetic dog busy while putting yourself at ease!

Exercise – This is very important!  We all know that dogs are a big time commitment.  One of the main rules for keeping your four-legged friends happy and healthy is to make sure that they are getting an adequate amount of exercise.  You must know your breed!  For example, different breeds require various levels of exercise.

Doggie Haven – Dogs need their own space too.  This is a way for them to wind down and relax after a long day of fun.  We recommend that you create an area for your dog – add a dog bed, toys, water and food bowls, etc.

Routine – Dogs love a good routine, especially if they can’t go outside to potty when they need to.  Try very hard to take your dog for a walk at the same time each morning and evening.  This will help them establish a routine and give them something to look forward to!

Unit Type – You will need to determine the best apartment unit type for you and your pup.  Perhaps it may be better to choose a unit that is closest to the door which will provide easer access.  You may also want to choose a lower-level unit compared to something on a higher floor.  When your dog has to go, they have to go!

A Friend – Are you busy and/or away throughout the day?  Consider hiring a neighbor or a friend to take your dog on walks or allow them to play throughout the day.  This will make a huge difference and your pup will get the exercise that they deserve.

As you can see, there are a lot of things to consider when you pair an energetic dog to small apartment living.  However, with proper patience and timing, you should be able to work.  Pay close attention to your breed as they will have different needs to keep them going!
