Spotlight Breed: Pocket Beagle 

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week.  This is where we feature one of the most interesting dog breeds around the globe.  Today we are excited to spotlight the Pocket Beagle!  Much smaller than your average beagle (hence the word ‘pocket’), these dogs are fun-loving and intelligent. Although the pocket beagle is an active breed, they can adapt to small house and apartment living.  However, this does not mean that they do not require mental and physical stimulation!  This breed is good for novice dog owners, but they are highly sensitive, independent thinking, and assertive.  Owning a pocket beagle will require patience, kindness, and consistency.  The pocket beagle is one of the friendliest dog breeds to note!  They are affectionate with family, children, strangers, and other dogs.  They shower their “pack” with tons of love and affection.  This is a dog that you can create a strong bond with.

As mentioned before, the pocket beagle is intelligent.  With this being said, they are easier to train compared to other dogs.  They can form an association between a prompt, an action, and a consequence.  Watch out though!  As they are a smart breed, they often have a “what’s in it for me?” attitude.  This is where you will implement rewards into your training sessions.

The pocket beagle is a dog with a high energy level.  They love to play and give lots of love!  If you are looking for your new best friend, this may be the breed for you.  We will leave you with our favorite quote about the pocket beagle: “I am your friend, your partner, your dog.  You are my life, my love, my leader.
