Dog Bowls

We think that a bowl is just a bowl, but that is not always the case.  Your dog’s bowl is a critical item, since he or she will utilize it several times a day for their entire life.  Buying the wrong type of dog bowl can put your dog at risk… so what makes for the best dog bowl?

The material is super important.  Most dog bowls are made from plastic, ceramic, or stainless steel.  Research shows that plastic is the worst option you could select.  There are many types of plastic which contain chemicals that appear to mimic hormones.  If ingested, your dog can have a hormonal imbalance which could lead to many negative health effects.  It is also important to note that plastic can be scratched easily which means that it can easily hold onto bacteria.  We recommend that you save yourself the trouble and avoid plastic bowls at all costs!

Ceramic bowls are much better than plastic bowls, but they still have some issues of their own.  The first is that they can break easily.  They are made from much heavy materials which means that they are less durable.  There are glazes that cover the ceramic bowl which have been known to contain toxic leads and dangerous heavy metals.  If you choose to use a ceramic dog bowl, ensure that it is made with a lead-free glaze.  Stainless steel bowls are the best option for dog bowls.  Not only are they very durable, but they are easy to clean.  However, it is important to check for quality standards.  Not all stainless-steel bowls are created equally!
