Spotlight Breed Sheepadoodle

Spotlight Breed: Sheepadoodle

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week.  This is where we feature a one-of-a-kind dog breed from around the globe.  We are excited to spotlight the Sheepadoodle today!  This is a mixed breed dog – a cross between the Old English Sheepdog and Poodle.  The Sheepadoodle is playful, loving, and smart, but they have so many more features to note.  Please continue reading on to learn more about this dog breed!

The Sheepadoodle may also be referred to as the Sheep-a-poo, Sheeppoo, Sheepdoodle, or Sheepdogpoo!  This breed makes an amazing family dog, as well as a companion for a single-person household.  They have the natural ability to read human emotions well, making them great therapy or emotional support dogs.  The Sheepadoodle is a very sensitive breed as they love with their entire heart. Although they can be independent, overall, they do not prefer to be alone.

This breed is very friendly.  They are affectionate with family (their pack), children, strangers, and other dogs.  They love to socialize and get attention! The Sheepadoodle forms strong relationships making them the overall protector of the pack.

Dog owners may find the Sheepadoodle challenging to train at times.  They can form an association between a prompt, an action, and a consequence.  However, their intelligence sometimes yields a “what’s in it for me?” attitude which will require you to incorporate treats and rewards into training.  Mental stimulation is also important as Sheepadoodles love to exercise their brains!

If you are looking for a fun-loving, intelligent, and playful breed, the Sheepadoodle may be for you!  We will leave you with our favorite quote about the breed: “No matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a Sheepadoodle makes you rich!”
