Spotlight Breed: Dalmatian
Our Spotlight Breed of the week is the Dalmatian! Best known as the star of Disney’s 101 Dalmatians, this sleek dog breed has a history that goes back several hundred years. Dalmatians started off as a coach dog but also served in many other capacities, including hunter, circus performer and firehouse dog!
Dalmatians love to be included in everything that their family does. They can go from gallant to goofy with the blink of an eye! Their high energy levels and need require them to have plenty of daily exercise and space to roam. This breed is not recommended for apartment or small house living. The Dalmatian has a higher friendliness level compared to many other breeds. They are super affectionate with family, they love kids, and can make friends with other dogs and sometimes strangers. They are always the life of the party!
Pet owners beware – shedding is common with the Dalmatian! No need to worry though; the breed is easy to groom. They also have a potential for weight gain, so it is crucial that they get the exercise in which they desire. The Dalmatian is super intelligent and easy to train. They can adapt well to various surroundings, thus boosting brain power along the way. Dalmatians can be a bit headstrong so training must be firm and consistent at a younger age.
To no surprise, the Dalmatian is probably one of the most recognized breeds on the planet. Not many other breeds have the regal carriage and unique spots that the Dalmatian does. They also make excellent companion dogs but sometimes their high energy level can be exhausting to live with. This is one of the most important things to note when choosing to adopt a Dalmatian.
We will leave you with one of our favorite Dalmatian jokes. What does a Dalmatian say after dinner? Thank you! That really hit the SPOT!!!
