Spotlight Breed: Cheagle
Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week. We are excited to teach you about a fun and unique dog breed from around the world! Our spotlight breed of the week is the Cheagle. This is a mixed breed dog – a cross between the Chihuahua and Beagle. As you can imagine, this breed has quite the personality! If we had to sum up the breed in three words, we would choose energetic, loyal, and compact. However, there is much more to learn about the Cheagle, so continue reading!
Cheagles go by a variety of different names. You may also know them as Beagle Chi, Chi-Bea, Beagle Chihuahua Mix, or Chibeagle. The adaptability of the breed is so-so. The Cheagle can adapt well to small and large home settings. They will be good to go if they have enough room for mental and physical stimulation! However, this is not a breed that adapts well to being alone for long periods. If you are a person who is away for long periods, this is not a breed for you!
The friendliness factor of the Cheagle depends on the day (haha). The breed is highly affectionate with family. The Cheagle loves to form strong bonds with its “pack.” They are hit or miss when interacting with children and other dogs. They will struggle a lot when it comes to strangers too. With this said, we recommend enrolling the Cheagle in basic obedience and socialization training. This will help boost their confidence and build good manners to help them be around other people and dogs.
Training a Cheagle may come with challenges. Although the breed is intelligent, they possess a “what’s in it for me?” attitude. You will need to include positive reinforcement in your training sessions so they can be rewarded for their excellent work. The Cheagle will need additional time, patience, and repetition during training.
High-energy dogs such as the Cheagle are always ready and waiting for action! The Cheagle needs significant exercise, mental stimulation, and love to explore and investigate new sights and smells. The breed loves to play and be stimulated by new things. We encourage you to come up with fun activities for the Cheagle. Consider building an agility course so that they can experience mental and physical stimulation at the same time!
Are you looking for a breed that is lovable, active, and intelligent? If so, the Cheagle may be for you! We will leave you with our favorite quote about the breed: “Nothing makes you smile more than looking into the face of a Cheagle that loves you!”
