Spotlight Breed: Aki-poo

Welcome to our spotlight breed article of the week. We are excited to help you learn more about a fun and unique dog breed from around the world! Our spotlight breed of the week is the Aki-poo. This is a new and unique crossbreed that is relatively unknown. You are correct if you assumed the crossbreed was a mix between the Akita and the Poodle! There is much more to learn about the Aki-poo, so please continue reading.

Let’s start with the history of the crossbreed. The parent breeds of the Aki-poo are beloved for a variety of reasons. Akitas protected royalty in Japan, and the Poodle is known for their high intelligence. Next, we talk about the adaptability of the breed. They are so-so when living in a small house or apartment. The reason is that the crossbreed strives heavily on mental and physical stimulation. They may become destructive if they do not have adequate space for stimulation.

Interestingly, the Aki-poo isn’t the friendliest dog in the world. This crossbreed mirrors the emotions of its parents, and it shows! The Aki-poo is affectionate with family and loves to form strong bonds with the people they are mostly around. However, the breed may struggle with being around other dogs, children, and strangers. Feelings such as anxiety, aggression, and indifference may occur. Therefore, enrolling the dog in basic obedience and socialization training will help strengthen their confidence and allow them to be around dogs, children, and strangers.

You shouldn’t have many issues when it comes to training the Aki-poo. The breed is extremely intelligent, and they love to show its owners what they are capable of. Easy-to-train dogs such as the Aki-poo can form an association between a prompt, an action, and a consequence quickly. Positive reinforcement is recommended, as the breed loves to be rewarded for hard work!

The Aki-poo is always ready and willing for the next adventure! Always plan activities that provide the most mental and physical stimulation to the Aki-poo. Building an agility course would work wonders while creating a stronger bond with the breed.
