Five Rude Habits of Dog Owners
To be the best dog owner you can be, you need to pay attention to your surroundings and be mindful of how you and your dog are portrayed. Sometimes the problem is not the dog; it is the owner! Follow our etiquette rules to ensure that you are respected in your community.
- Do not talk on your phone at the dog park. When talking on your phone, you are not paying attention to your four-legged friend. You need to be alert if your dog needs your attention.
- Do not leave waste or waste bags on the ground. If you fail to pick up your dog’s waste or waste bags, it shows that you are inconsiderate of others. Do your part and find a trash bin for the waste.
- Do not put your dog outside when they don’t stop barking. You think putting your dog in the backyard or on your balcony will help calm them down. You’re mistaken. This behavior will worsen the situation, and your neighbors will not appreciate you.
- Do not call it a support animal if it is not. Service dogs have specific definitions and must be trained, tested, and certified. Some people choose to call their dog a “support” animal. This is not only rude but dangerous as well.
- Do not walk your dog without a leash. Even if your four-legged friend is adequately trained on the basic commands, it is not safe to allow them to roam without being leashed. Even the most well-behaved dog can have a moment, or there may be another dog that comes up to your dog. A leash will create a boundary for safety.
