The interesting thing about cold cold-weather breeds is that they are made to withstand the harshest winter temperatures with ease. Alaskan Malamute – With a name like this, there is no surprise that this breed does well in cold weather! The Alaskan Malamute is known to be the biggest of the arctic sled dogs. The breed is native to Alaska and is thought to be one of the older arctic dog breeds today.

Siberian Husky – This breed is known for its unique appearance. The dog has a double coat fur layer that keeps them insulated while looking sleek and agile. They originated in Siberia as a working sled breed.

Tibetan Terrier – This breed is smaller than some of the dogs on our list. However, they are a great companion to handle the cold weather. The breed originated in Tibet, and their job was to guard the snowy mountains. The Tibetan Terrier has long fur and big paws.

Newfoundland – This breed can reach up to 150 pounds as an adult. With their thick fur and hefty body, they can handle very cold environments.
