Tornado Safety Tips for Dogs

Tornado Safety Tips for Dogs

Regardless of where you live, you should always be aware of natural disasters and the steps to take to keep you and your four-legged friends safe. Being proactive and planning can help you save a life. Tornados can occur with little or no warning. We compiled a list of tips for those living in areas prone to tornados.

  1. Identification – This is probably the most essential thing that you can do, regardless of an instance of a natural disaster. Ensure that your dog’s collar is secure and the tag is legible, including your current phone number and contact information.
  2. Safe Zones – It is common for animals to become stressed and hide during extreme weather conditions. Every few months, practice leashing your dog and taking them to a safe place. If a natural disaster occurs, they will be better prepared and less stressed.
  3. Photos – It’s not bad to carry photos of your pets and give copies to others outside your immediate area. If you become separated from your pet, photos will help you get them back.
  4. Search Zones – It is common for lost animals to show up at local animal shelters. Be sure to have each shelter’s phone numbers and locations in your area.

Natural disasters can be frightening for humans and pets. However, if you are proactive and know what to do, it will be less stressful for everyone. Do your part to keep you and your four-legged friend safe!
