You may reach a point in your dog walking routine where you are bored of the same old route that you take. Luckily, there are a few simple ways to change up our daily dog walking routine and turn it into something more exciting and enjoyable. We have created a list of tips below!

  1. Encourage a new walking path or trail. Once or twice a week, find a nearby park or new neighborhood to explore. New scenery comes with new sights, sounds, and smells which make your walk more exciting for you and your dog.
  2. Bring a friend. Can you think of the last time that you took a stroll with a good friend? We are so connected with technology nowadays that we sometimes forget to catch up in person. Instead of catching up via text, invite a friend over for a nice walk. If they have a dog, have them bring them along as well. It will be a true doggie date!
  3. Encourage sniffing. A dog walk is more than just exercise. It provides mental stimulation as well. Take a few minutes on your walk to stop and let your dog sniff around. It is their way of exploring the world around them. Taking a few sniff breaks will add a lot of mental and sensory stimulation to their walk.
  4. Change the pace. Do you normally walk at a leisurely pace or quickly? You can always switch gears and take more time to enjoy the scenery or pick up the pace to add some intensity to the walk.
  5. Socialize. Stop for a couple minutes to catch up with neighbors or other dog owners as you walk by. Most dogs love a bit of extra attention, and it is great at boosting socialization skills. Plus, you may find a new friend along the way!
