Spotlight Breed: Terripoo

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week.  This is where we feature one of the most interesting dog breeds from around the globe.  Today we are excited to spotlight the Terripoo!  This breed is a cross between the Australian Terrier and the miniature Poodle.  They are intelligent, playful, and intuitive.  However, there is so much more to note about this breed.  Continue reading on to learn more!

Terripoos are also known as Terri Poos, Terridoodles, and Terrypoos.  One of the most interesting facts about this breed is that they are considered “designer dogs”, bred on the purpose to emphasize desirable characteristics from each breed.  Let’s face it…some dogs are easier to handle than others.  The Terripoo is a good dog for novice owners because they take to training better and are easygoing.

The all-around friendliness of the breed depends on who they are dealing with.  They are extremely affectionate with their family and children.  They can form a close bond with their pack!  The Terripoo may struggle when it comes to interacting with other dogs or strangers.  They may be territorial and try to “protect” you.  This is where you will need to focus on socialization training.  It will work wonders!

As mentioned before, the Terripoo is easy to train.  They can form an association between a prompt, an action, and a consequence.  They are so intelligent that they have a “what’s in it for me?” attitude.  This is where you will need to implement rewards into your training process.  The Terripoo has a high prey drive.  If they see something that they want, they will go after it!

If you are looking for a four-legged friend who is loving, has a high potential for play, and is super intelligent, the Terripoo may be for you!  We will leave you with our favorite quote about the breed: “Handle every situation like a Terripoo.  If you can’t eat it or play with it, just pee on it and walk away!”
