Spotlight Breed: Peekapoo

Our spotlight breed of the week is the Peekapoo, a hybrid crossbreed between the Pekingese and Poodle breeds. Given the parent breeds, it is no surprise that the Peekapoo has an entertaining personality. However, there is much more to learn, so continue reading!

Let’s start by talking about the adaptability of the Peekaboo. This is a highly adaptable dog breed! They are fine to live in small or large homes. The living environment isn’t a concern, especially if the breed can receive mental and physical stimulation. We think that the breed is ideal for novice owners because they are very low-maintenance. However, one thing to consider is that the Peekaboo does not like to be alone for long periods. If you are away from the house for long periods, this may not be the breed for you.

The Peekaboo is about a 4.5 out of 5 on the friendliness factor. They love to form strong bonds with the people they are most around! Their loyalty shines bright as they are very loving. They tend to respond well to children and other dogs too. You may run into some obstacles when a Peekaboo encounters a stranger. Therefore, basic obedience and socialization training will help the breed build confidence along the way!

Training a Peekaboo is hit or miss. The breed is very intelligent, given its parent breeds. The Peekapoo can form an association between a prompt, an action, and a consequence rather quickly. However, it may take more time for them to do so. Positive reinforcement with rewards will be a great training tool, as the breed loves to be rewarded for a job well done!

The breed is mid-level energy and not very intense at all. Although the Peekapoo loves a great game of fetch or hide and seek, they also enjoy relaxing!
