Spotlight Breed Cavapoo

Spotlight Breed: Cavapoo

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week. This is where we feature a unique and fun dog breed from around the globe! We are excited to spotlight the Cavapoo today. This is a mixed breed dog – a cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle breeds. They are outgoing, playful, and curious. You may also notice that the Cavapoo also goes by Cavadoodle and Cavoodle

A Cavapoo dog’s round eyes are soft and inviting. From their parent breeds, they inherit long, silky, flopped ears that frame their face. The coat of the Cavapoo is wavy, smooth curls that are fluffy and pleasant to touch. You may be wondering about the coloring of the breed. They often range of solid hues, including black, gray, red, brown, tan, beige, and white. The size of the Cavapoo varies based on whether they have a miniature or toy poodle parent. Height ranges between 9-14 inches, and weight averages 8-25 pounds.

The breed adapts well to any sort of living situation from small apartment to large home. Keep in mind that they are sensitive, so they take a lot of things to heart. This is not a bad thing as they tend to form the strongest bonds with their pack.  The Cavapoo is not a breed that enjoys being alone. We do not recommend that you adopt this breed if you travel a lot or are away from the house for long periods of time. They love companionship and it shows!  Cavapoo are very friendly. They are affectionate with family, kids, other dogs, and even strangers.

Training a Cavapoo will require patience and consistency. They are intelligent and can form an association between a prompt, an action, and a consequence. However, they often have a “what’s in it for me?” attitude. This is where you will need to use positive reinforcement in their training sessions.

Are you looking for a dog breed that is fun, adorable, and loving? If so, the Cavapoo may be for you! We will leave you with our favorite quote about the breed: Cavapoo Property Laws – If I like it, it’s mine, If I can take it from you, it’s mine. If I saw it first, it’s mine. If I am chewing something up, all of the pieces are mine. If it’s broken, it’s yours!”
