Can Dogs Get Food Poisoning?

We all know that food poisoning is rough! It can cause symptoms that make us feel extremely ill. Unfortunately, the same thing applies to our four-legged friends. Dogs can get food poisoning. If you feel that your dog has food poisoning, you can’t afford to waste time. They need to be taken to the vet immediately.

Signs of a bad reaction include:

  • Lethargy
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Unwillingness to eat

In extreme cases you will see:

  • Muscle spasms
  • Severe dehydration
  • Disorientation

Diagnosis of food poisoning in dogs is like that for humans and typically involves noting the above symptoms. The body recognizes the toxin and will do whatever it takes to eliminate it – usually in the form of diarrhea and/or vomiting. As we mentioned above, any time that your dog is vomiting or showing signs of stomach issues, it is best to take them to the vet
