This dog breed is a mix between the Affenpinscher and the Border Terrier. One of the things they are most known for is their strong personalities! The Affen Border Terrier has a good adaptability score. It doesn’t matter if they are in a big house or a small apartment. They are good to go if they receive enough mental and physical stimulation! Another good thing about the breed is that they tolerate being alone for extended periods compared to other dogs. By no means does this mean you should leave them alone all day, but they will be fine when you are away for a bit.
Let’s talk about the friendliness of the breed. The Affen Border Terrier is highly affectionate with family. They love to form strong bonds with their “pack.” Ultimately, they are friendly around other dogs and strangers as well. There may be a few hurdles to overcome when the breed is faced with children. Once the Affen Border Terrier goes through obedience and socialization training, they should be good to go.
It is always exciting and fun while training an Affen Border Terrier. They are brilliant and have no problem showing you what they are capable of. Easy-to-train dogs such as this can quickly form an association between a prompt, an action, and a consequence. You will have to implement positive reinforcement in your sessions, however. The breed has a “what’s in it for me?” attitude, and they love to be rewarded for a job well done!
Another thing you need to realize about the Affen Border Terrier is that they have a strong prey drive. If they see something they want, they will do whatever it takes to go after it! Dogs who like chasing things need to be leashed or kept in a fenced-in area outdoors. The breed also tends to bark and howl. The good news is that there is training that will prevent the dog from barking too much.
