Pet-Friendly Hotel Etiquette

Pet-Friendly Hotel Etiquette

Do you travel with your four-legged friend a lot? If so, you may plan to stay in a pet-friendly hotel. There are specific etiquette rules that we encourage you to follow. The tips we provide below will help you enjoy a stress-free trip, and you’ll be on good terms with the hotel staff.

  1. Never sneak your dog into a hotel! There should be no reason for you to sneak your dog into a hotel. We understand that some hotels charge pet fees, but others do not. We recommend that you research which hotels do not have pet fees. Some hotels have a deposit that you receive back if your dog does not cause any damage. Make reservations for your dog.

  1. Avoid using the ice bucket as a water bowl. You should bring your own food and water bowls while traveling with your pup. We suggest you avoid feeding your dog out of the hotel ice bucket. It is not sanitary, and you need to know what chemicals are used to clean it.

  1. Do not leave your dog alone in the hotel room. There are many reasons why your dog should not be left unattended. It is against the pet policy in most hotels. Your dog is in a strange atmosphere and may experience separation anxiety and cause damage to furniture or have accidents in the hotel room. You can always find a local doggie sitter or daycare if you need to leave your dog during your trip.

  1. Be prepared for accidents. Dogs are exposed to new scents at hotels. These scents may be from other dogs who have stayed at the hotel. This can stimulate dogs to have accidents. Please make sure you pack some pet enzyme odor cleaner in case of an accident.

  1. Avoid letting your dog roam off-leash. Please always keep your dog leashed when you walk through the hotel grounds. Your dog is unfamiliar with the surroundings and may have the urge to wander off and explore. It is also a common courtesy, as guests may feel uncomfortable or frightened by an unleashed dog.

We hope that you understand the importance of our pet-friendly hotel etiquette tips! If your dog happens to damage the room, definitely be honest and upfront with the hotel staff. You will more than likely be charged for unreported damage. Enjoy your travels with your four-legged friend!
