My House Smells like Dog – Help!
We love our four-legged friends, but let’s face it…sometimes they smell! The last thing we want is our house to smell like them too. In this article, we will break down the basics on how to keep your house from smelling like dog and how to eliminate pet odors as you go.
- Fresh air. Never underestimate the importance of fresh air. If you live in a newer house, they should be built well as to be airtight. This may be great for saving energy, but not so great for letting out stink and letting in fresh air. Depending on the weather, try to open some windows to let some fresh air in. It will make quite the difference!
- Filter. Use HEPA filters to keep your air as clean as possible. HEPA stands for high-efficiency particulate air. The good thing about these filters is that they work by forcing air through super-fine mesh filters to trap tiny gunk like dander, dust mites, pollen, and smoke particles.
- Cover stuff up. Do you allow your dogs on your furniture? If so, it is best that you cover your couch with a slipcover or blanket specifically for pets. Grab some blankets that fit your décor and put them on the sofa as a throw. Encourage your dog to lay on the blanket instead of the couch cushions. The great part about this is that the blanket can be thrown in the washer for easy cleaning!
- Vinegar and baking soda. Your house will never smell like pet odor again if you always keep these two items on hand! Vinegar is great for cleaning wood floors and the smell dissipates after a few minutes. Baking soda absorbs odors in the air, and you can also use it as a dry shampoo for your pup! The best thing is…both items are environmentally friendly!
- Groom your dog. You need to make this a priority if you want to reduce the odors amongst your houses. We recommend that you give your dog a thorough brushing outdoors. This will help eliminate a ton of indoor odor along the way. Follow up with a bath from time to time to have a fresh, clean, and happy dog!
