Moving a Dog from A House to An Apartment

Moving a Dog from A House to An Apartment

People change their living environments more than we know. Whether moving from a house to an apartment or an apartment to a home, our four-legged friends need to be considered. Today we will provide some tips on how to make moving a dog from a house to an apartment with ease.

The first thing you must do is choose a suitable apartment. A pet-friendly building is ideal, and you should look for amenities such as a dog park. Also, choose a location with many grassy areas for your dog. You may want to consider a ground floor unit for a few reasons. Living on the ground floor will add ease when your dog has to go outside and potty. Furthermore, you will not have to worry about neighbors underneath you.

Are you moving from a house with a fenced backyard? You may be worried that your dog will no longer get enough exercise. Apartment life may mean more exercise! It’s easy to get lazy when you have access to a fenced-in yard. Going out for potty walks 3-4 times a day means that you and your dog are getting exercise. Now that’s a win-win in our book!

Another concern is complaints from neighbors if you have a barking dog. You must be patient. A former house dog may need time to adjust to the sounds of other tenants walking around the building. Try playing soft, calm music or turning on the tv to drown out some of the sounds. If your dog is barking while you are not home, consider setting up a camera to observe the behavioral patterns. Your dog may be barking due to separation anxiety, which must be addressed. Try not to leave your dog alone in the new apartment for long periods in the beginning.

Ensure that you stick to old routines when moving to the apartment. For example, if your dog is used to getting up, taking a morning walk, and then eating breakfast, please continue doing that. Moving is stressful for everyone, including our dogs. Give them extra love and commit to spending quality time with them. It may take your dog a few weeks to get used to its new surroundings. Patience will go a long way!
