- Nesting – The nesting behavior will start about 48 hours before the pregnant dog goes into labor. This behavior might start a week before the labor, but a serious increase in nesting can be noticed two days before whelping.
- Rectal Temperature Drop – It is good measure to keep track of the pregnant dog’s rectal temperature in the final week of pregnancy. - Pacing, Panting, Vomiting, Bowel Movement – About six to 12 hours before your dog goes into labor, there will be a chance in the dog’s behavior. This is because dogs feel the labor is coming, and their body naturally starts preparing for it.
You should have your phone nearby when your dog starts to deliver puppies. It is best to keep your vet prepared and have them ready to come to your home in the event of any complications.
