TV Shows Designed for Dogs

How many of you keep your TV on for your dogs while you are away from home?  It’s common!  Stay at home dogs around the globe are constantly being entertained by television programming which is specifically designed for the canine in mind.  In fact, “DOGTV”  is now available in more than 250-million households across the globe.  This channel offers three different kinds of programming catered to your four-legged friend:  relaxation, stimulation, and exposure.

Many of us wonder what visual, emotional, and auditory content is appealing to dogs.  To no surprise, dogs love to see other dogs and animals on the screen.  A study at Oxford University showed that dogs enjoy watching other dogs running around, playing fetch, swimming, sniffing, and having a good time!  DOGTV is known for showing dogs rapidly moving objects and animations so that pups can identify and taste the outside world when they are at home.  Keep in mind that music also plays a big factor in how much dogs enjoy TV.  They can relax with the right music, sounds, and visuals.  However, loud noises and barking may cause anxiety.

Do all dogs enjoy watching TV?  Not all dogs are the same, and not all dogs react the same to visual content on TV.  Some dogs may be satisfied by DOGTV, and others may bark and get irritated with the channel.  One thing that we should realize is that dogs have a very short attention span.  The normal length of a DOGTV program is 2 to 5 minutes long.  Therefore, it is good to switch categories (channels) so that you can keep your pup mentally stimulated while you are away from the house!
