Spotlight Breed Springador

Spotlight Breed: Springador

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week. This is where we feature a fun and unique dog breed from around the globe! Today we are excited to spotlight the Springador. This dog is a mixed breed – a cross between the Springer Spaniel and Labrador Retriever dog breeds. They are loyal, friendly, and smart but there is so more to learn about them!

In a way, the crossing of the Springer Spaniel and Labrador Retriever breeds may seem natural because both breeds are good sporting dogs. Skill in retrieving is well-known in both breeds. It is interesting to note that Labrador crosses of all kinds are high in demand because of their temperament – friendly, active, easy to train, and sociable.

Springador puppies can weigh from 55-90 lbs. They range from about 21.5 to 24.5 inches in height. A Springador full grown, being a mix, can take on the smaller size of Springer Spaniels, or grow to be as big as Labs.

The breed is known for being extremely friendly and playful. It’s almost like they have never met a stranger! Not only that, but they are hardworking, steady, and obedient. Keep an eye out for them. They are very driven when it comes to prey, due to their prey drive. Springadors have a lot of stamina, as they are built to be in the field for long days.

With all of this being said, a small apartment or house may not be the best place for a Springador. With so much energy to spare, they really need adequate space to roam. Mental and physical stimulation is very important and should be taken seriously! In addition, the breed does not like to be left alone for long periods of time. They form close bonds with their “pack” and love to show affection.

If you are looking for an active, sweet, and adorable dog breed then the Springador may be for you! We will leave you with our favorite quote about the breed: “The journey called life is much more fun when accompanied by a Springador.”
