Spotlight Breed Field Spaniel

Spotlight Breed: Field Spaniel

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week. We are excited to teach you about a fun and unique dog breed from around the globe! Our spotlight breed of the week is the Field Spaniel. This sturdy, medium-sized dog breed was initially bred to retrieve game from land or water. There is much more to learn about the Field Spaniel, so please continue reading!

Let’s start by talking about the adaptability of the Field Spaniel. We mentioned that they were bred to complete a job. With this said, they require tons of mental and physical stimulation. We do not believe the breed is compatible with small homes or apartment living. This is because they need adequate space for exercise and mental games. If they live in a small area, ensure that there is a nearby dog park, or you are ready to go on plenty of walks!

The Field Spaniel is a very sensitive dog. They have a heart of gold, and it shows. The bonds that the breed forms with their family are immaculate. Therefore, to no surprise, the Field Spaniel doesn’t do well being alone for long periods. They may become anxious and destructive if left alone for long periods.

The breed is one of the friendliest breeds in the world! The Field Spaniel is affectionate with family, children, other dogs, and strangers. Regardless of their instincts to be friendly, we still recommend that the Field Terrier take basic obedience and socialization training courses. This will help them become more confident and friendlier than ever!

Training a Field Terrier shouldn’t be that difficult. They are meant to do a job which means they are brilliant. They do not have a problem showing you what they are capable of! The Field Terrier can form an association between a prompt, an action, and a consequence. We recommend positive reinforcement with rewards to let them know they have done an excellent job!

Are you looking for a dog breed that is friendly, fun, and active? If so, the Field Spaniel may be for you! We will leave you with some fun facts about the breed: Both males and females weigh from 35 to 55 pounds and have eyes that are hazel or chestnut brown. Their ears are long, and their tails are usually docked!
