Spotlight Breed: Docker

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week. This is where we feature a fun and unique dog breed from around the globe! We are excited to spotlight the Docker breed this week. The Docker is a mixed breed dog – a cross between the Dachshund and Cocker Spaniel dog breeds. The breed goes by a few other names including Doxie Spaniel and Spaniel Doxie. They range in size from small to medium and enjoy lounging around with intervals of playtime in between. There is so much more to this breed. Continue reading to learn more!

Thanks to the unique combination of the parental breeds, the Docker has a personality that makes it ideal for the role of companionship. They are sweet, cuddly, and devoted to their owners. Loyalty will not be a problem with the Docker breed! These mixed breed dogs will excel as pets for seniors, singles, or families. They are an all-around ideal breed for anyone. If they go through proper socialization and training, these dogs are extremely sweet and friendly, and will easily fit in with other dogs.

As an intelligent and easy to please dog, the Docker is highly trainable. They are fast learners and love to make their owners happy. Basic training should be a breeze with this breed! However, you must be aware that these crossbreeds can inherit a stubborn streak from their Doxie parent. This is where you will need to implement positive reinforcement into your training sessions. These methods work wonders with all dogs as they give them an extra reason to put in the effort and deepen their bond with the owner.

This Docker is a feisty, energetic dog with an active mind. Naturally, this will mean that they will need daily activity to stay happy and healthy. Think about walks around the neighborhood, visits to the dog park, or a game of fetch. These dogs require approximately 30 to 60 minutes of deliberate exercise. If you are looking for a fun and active dog who also loves to hang out and relax, the Docker may be for you!
