Spotlight Breed Bassetoodle

Spotlight Breed: Bassetoodle

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week. We are excited to help you learn more about a fun and unique dog breed from around the world! Our spotlight breed of the day is the Bassetoodle. This breed is a newer crossbreed between the relaxed Basset Hound and the clever Poodle. As you can imagine, this breed packs a punch regarding its personality. However, there is much more to learn about the Bassetoodle, so please continue reading!

The Bassetoodle has parents that come from unique backgrounds. The Poodle is known as an intelligent and elegant show dog. The Basset Hound is a talented hunting dog. The mixed breed makes the Bassetoodle very interesting, to say the least. The breed does not adapt well to a small home or apartment living. They will need plenty of space to thrive on their mental and physical stimulations. We do not recommend adopting a Bassetoodle if you are a novice dog owner. The reason is that the breed is highly sensitive, independent, and assertive. These attributes will make it challenging for a rookie pet owner.

Let’s talk about the friendliness of the Bassetoodle. The breed is highly affectionate with family. The Bassetoodle strives to form close relationships with its “pack.” They are also good around children, which is a plus! If you see them at a dog park, you will notice that they love to be the center of attention while playing with their four-legged friends. You may run into some difficulty when the Bassetoodle encounters strangers. They may be indifferent or even aggressive. Basic obedience and socialization training will help tremendously.

Training a Bassetoodle shouldn’t be too difficult. In fact, it can be very rewarding. Easy-to-train dogs like the Bassetoodle are more adept at forming an association between a prompt, an action, and a consequence. Basset Hounds and Poodles are intelligent, so you can only imagine what the Bassetoodle is capable of! We recommend using positive reinforcement in your training sessions because the breed loves to be rewarded for their hard work. The Bassetoodle has a high potential for playfulness. Due to this, their owner must be active and ready to play! Think outside the box when it comes to activities for the Bassetoodle. This breed would enjoy an agility course in the backyard.

Are you looking for a dog breed that is loyal, playful, and intelligent? If so, the Bassetoodle may be for you! We will leave you with our favorite quote about the breed: “Before I met you, I wanted you. The moment I saw you, I loved you. An hour after knowing you, I would protect you with my life. I am your Bassetoodle!”
