Spotlight Breed: Aussiedoodle

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week!  This is where we help you learn more about different dog breeds.  We are very excited to showcase the Aussiedoodle today.  Do you have an Aussiedoodle?  Send us a picture of your four-legged friend to dustin@hotdogonaleash.com to be featured on one of our social media pages!

The Aussiedoodle is a mixed breed dog – crossed between an Australian Shepherd and Poodle.  These dogs are incredibly loyal, playful, and smart!  It is obvious that they inherited these qualities from their parents.  Often referred to as an “Einstein” breed for their intelligence, this breed does the best in homes which provide plenty of attention and exercise.  The Aussiedoodle makes an amazing family dog as they are very apt to bond with their “pack”.

This breed would be good for a novice owner.  Although the Aussiedoodle can be sensitive, independent thinking, and assertive, they are great learners and are easy to train.  They are more adept at forming an association between a prompt, an action, and a consequence very quickly.  Sometimes they possess a “what’s in it for me” attitude so you may need to incorporate rewards into their training program!

The Aussiedoodle is high-energy.  They are always ready and waiting for action!  This breed needs a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation.  Otherwise, they will come up with their own activities which may not always be ideal.  Given the Aussiedoodle’s high energy, intelligence, and intensity levels, they would be great candidates for agility courses and dog sports.

We hope that you learned a lot about the Aussiedoodle!  As seen on a coffee mug: “If I can’t bring my Aussiedoodle, I’m not going!”
