Spotlight Breed Afaird

Spotlight Breed: Afaird

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week. We are excited to provide some fun facts about a unique dog breed from around the world. Our spotlight breed is the Afaird. This is a relatively new “designer dog” crossbreed mixed between the Afghan Hound and the Briard. The Afaird has a unique look and a huge personality that make them very intriguing. This breed has a strong personality and can become very protective of their loved ones. However, there is much more to learn, so please continue reading!

The Afaird is not considered one of the highly adaptable breeds. This breed needs mental and physical stimulation to thrive in its environment. If an Afaird is placed in small living quarters, they may not receive the required stimulation. We do not recommend that a novice dog owner adopt an Afaird. Highly sensitive dogs, independent thinking or assertive, will be more challenging to work with.

Let’s take a look at the friendliness level of the Afaird. Their overall friendliness score ranks high amongst other dogs. They are very affectionate with their family and love to form strong bonds. The breed is also friendly to children, dogs, and strangers! Although they can be friendly, we recommend that all dogs enroll in basic obedience and socialization training. These trainings will strengthen their skills even more.

Health and grooming needs should be considered when thinking about adopting an Afaird. The Afaird is a large-sized breed. Although they may seem empowering and intimidating, they are one of the biggest sweethearts to roam the land! Keep in mind that the Afaird loves to shed fur! We recommend you invest in a good vacuum and broom because you’ll need them. A de-shedding tool will also help lessen the amount of shedding in your home.

Training this breed may be difficult at times. The Afaird is intelligent and can form an association between a prompt, an action, and a consequence. However, dog owners must be patient and consistent to get to this point. The Afaird may also have a “what’s in it for me?” attitude. If this happens, positive reinforcement will work wonders!

Are you looking for a loving and unique dog breed? If so, the Afaird may be for you! We recently saw a t-shirt that stated, “My Afaird has better hair than you!” Nothing else could be more accurate!
