Moving with Dogs

Moving is never a fun-filled experience and doing so with a dog can be even harder.  Pets have a hard time understanding what is going on.  There are a lot of emotions that run through their heads when it is time to move — confusion, anxiety, and even depression to name a few.  However, there are many ways that pet owners can make the move much more bearable.

It is important that you prepare your dog for the change.  As odd as it sounds, talk to your dog about the move and avoid any freak-outs.  Use a calm voice to let your pet know that everything is going to be okay.  Pet owners will also need to plan according to the type of the move.  Is it across countries or even abroad?  Regardless, be sure that the dogs are microchipped and have ID tags with the new address on them!

Packing up near your four-legged friend will be quite the task!  Assemble and tape the boxes several days before you move so that your dog becomes accustomed to the new look and sound of their home.  When it comes time to move, pack your dog into the car last.  It is common for them to be anxious along the way!  Be sure to make time for potty breaks and walks.

It will soon be time for the dog to get acquainted with their new home! Allow them to get familiar with their new surroundings.  They will be used to their new home before you know it!
