Humidifiers and Dogs 101

Humidifiers are excellent, especially in areas that are dry and lack humidity. Just like humans, our four-legged friends can benefit from a humidifier in the home. Humidifiers are great because they help lessen congestion and make it easier for dogs to breathe, in addition to soothing the skin. Overall, humidifiers are safe for dogs, but there are other things you should consider, which we will explain below.

The primary purpose of a humidifier is to add moisture to the air while emitting water vapor. Some of the most common humidifiers are warm mist and cool mist humidifiers. Warm mist humidifiers heat water to release steam into the air. Cool mist humidifiers do not use heat. Instead, a fan blows air over a wet wick or filter.

Some of the benefits of humidifiers for dogs include the following:

  • Help to moisturize your dog’s skin
  • Allow your dog to breathe easier
  • Boosts your dog’s immune system

Although there are a handful of benefits, you must pay close attention to the safety concerns of humidifiers in the home. Warm mist humidifiers operate with scolding hot water, which will cause burning if your dog encounters it. If improperly cleaned, there is also a risk of bacteria and mold growth inside a humidifier. Bacteria and mold released into the air can cause several respiratory issues.

Humidifiers are safe for dogs, but you must proactively prevent any safety concerns. There are many humidifiers to choose from. Research to determine the humidifier that would be the best fit for your household!
