How to Keep Carpets Clean with Dogs

Dogs and carpets may not be the most ideal situation; however, it is possible! Removing carpet may seem easy, but sometimes that’s not an option. We compiled a list of some of the most common tips for keeping a clean carpet with your four-legged friend. Check it out below!

  1. Steam Clean – We recommend that you steam clean your carpet every 3-5 months. One of the best things about steam cleaning is that it is the quickest and easiest way to deep clean large, carpeted areas. You can either purchase or rent a steam cleaner. An effective cleaning solution is excellent but having a strong suction power from a good steam cleaning machine is critical. Tip: You do not need to go crazy with the cleaning solution. Lightly mist the carpet, then spend ample time removing the sprayed solution from the carpet by slowly suctioning.
  2. Be Proactive – Accidents will happen with a dog. There is no way around it! Cleaning up accidents right when they happen is the best way to keep carpets clean with dogs. Always wipe up debris before spraying any type of cleaner on the carpet. Your dog may urinate or vomit on the carpet. If this happens, wipe and dab up as much liquid as possible before spraying a cleaner.
  3. Avoid Carpet Deodorizers – Sometimes, carpet deodorizers cause more harm than good. Not only that but powder carpet deodorizers are usually made of heavy chemicals. If your carpet has an odor, refer to our first tip and steam clean instead of using a deodorizer. This will remove the smell rather than mask it with deodorizers!

As you can see, it is possible to keep a clean carpet with your four-legged friend! Always ensure that the products you use on the carpet (and throughout the house) are pet friendly. Be proactive by cleaning up any messes firsthand!
