You know what they say…”April showers bring May flowers!” Spring has sprung, and the rainy season is here. Many people do not realize that rain can affect our four-legged friends in more ways than one. Think about it. Rain changes the entire environment. Below is a list of reasons your dog may act differently when it rains.
- Dirty dogs everywhere! Most dogs do not like to get wet. To no surprise, when it rains, everything gets wet! Wet grass causes a dog’s paws to get wet and dirty. Puddles are everywhere, and mud and dirt are tracked in the house if you are not careful.
- Dogs do not get enough exercise. It is a challenge to get adequate exercise when it rains. Even owners dislike walking dogs when it rains. Pet owners will need to think outside of the box to come up with fun indoor activities for dogs so that they can be mentally and physically stimulated.
- There are weird smells when it rains! Dogs have a keen sense of smell which may multiply during the rainy seasons. If your dog loves to smell wild animals, they may enjoy the rain because scents are easier to follow!
- Different sounds come with rain. Research shows that over 30% of dogs are afraid of thunderstorms.
- Static electricity can happen to dogs. Dogs can experience static shock in their coats. The good news is that there are vests and jackets that can help prevent your dog from feeling like it has static electricity on its fur.
