Here’s How to Help Your Puppy Build Muscle

Certain dogs may need more time to build muscle, depending on the breed. The good news is that you can help your puppy along the way! We don’t want you to try and make your dog look like “Hulk,” but lean muscle will make a difference. Below is our list of tips on how your dog can start to gain muscle quicker than you’d ever imagine.

  1. Daily exercise is crucial. Let’s face it. Like humans, dogs will not gain muscle by sitting on the couch watching their favorite TV show. Get out and move! We recommend that dogs get at least 30 minutes of brisk walking daily. However, some breeds will require more exercise.

  1. Focus on nutrition. For your dog to gain a good physique, its diet must be on par. Reading the nutrition labels on your dog’s food is crucial. Cheap dog foods include things like meat by-products and corn. Aim to find foods that have tons of protein and whole meats.

Speak with your veterinarian if you need further assistance finding the best food for your dog.

  1. A weight vest may work wonders for your dog. Have you ever heard of a weight vest? This is considered a “next level” exercise! The weight vest adds extra resistance, which will increase muscle-building. Start with a lighter weight vest and gradually work your way up. Do not opt for an extremely heavy weight vest, as too much resistance can cause injuries.

  1. Recovery is vital. Exercise breaks muscles down, but a dog’s muscles repair and grow stronger during recovery. Be patient by increasing your dog’s routine gradually and not overdoing it. Rest will get you the results that you want!

Daily exercise, excellent nutrition, a weight vest, and recovery are keys to building doggie muscle. Like humans, the more muscle a dog has, the more fat will be burned, creating a lean physique. Slow and steady wins the race, especially when it comes to muscle-building!
