A Spring Cleaning Guide for Dogs
Doesn’t it feel amazing when you do a deep Spring cleaning? Don’t forget about your four-legged friend when you clean your house from top to bottom! Spring is the best time to refresh things like doggie bowls, leashes, and bedding. We created a list of tips to help you tackle your dog’s toughest messes while enjoying Spring cleaning to the fullest!
- Explore the Toy Box – It may be time for you to sort through your dog’s toys and pitch the ones that are damaged. If your pup is still enjoying a toy, give it a good washing. Hard or rubber toys can be cleaned with hot water and mild dish soap. You can wash soft toys in the washing machine.
- Clean the Bowls – Did you know that you should wash your dog’s food bowls every day with hot water and mild dish soap? This will help prevent things like E.coli, staph, and parasites.
- Check Food, Treats, and Medications – Spring is a great time to review your dog’s food, treats, and medication. Check the expiration dates on foods and treats and pitch anything that is expired. Also ensure that medication is within the adequate date range as well.
- Refresh Bedding – Start by vacuuming or shaking the hair off the bedding outdoors. If the cover can be removed from the dog’s bedding, throw it in the washing machine with hot water. Avoid putting foam inserts into the washing machine as they may deteriorate. You may wash foam by hand in the sink or bathtub using a small amount of laundry detergent. Your dog will love their fresh bedding!
- Stubborn Pet Hair Removal – Do you have a pup who loves to shed? Use damp rubber gloves or a de-shedding tool to get rid of excess fur. It is best to do this outside so your home isn’t covered in pet hair.
- Yard Cleanup – The snow should be gone, and you probably have a good view of the entire yard now! Take time to pick up odds and ends and survey the area. Check fencing for holes or areas which may need repairs.
