Spotlight Breed: Siberian Husky

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week.  This is where we feature one of the most interesting dog breeds of the world.  Today we are spotlighting the Siberian Husky!  This beautiful breed has a thick coat and comes in a multitude of colors and markings.  One thing that makes the husky unique is their multi-colored eyes and striking facial masks.  There are many reasons why people are drawn to this breed and we will explain why.

The Siberian Husky is an athletic and intelligent dog.  They can act independently which may come as a challenge to a first-time dog owner.  This breed will need constant attention as they crave physical and mental stimulation.  Otherwise, they may try to escape and/or cause mischief.  Giving your husky enough exercise may prove easier said than done; though, it will reduce boredom and unwanted behaviors, like escape attempts.

The Siberian Husky is a sensitive breed.  They wear their hearts on their shoulders, but this also means that they form a very close bond with their “pack”.  They are extremely friendly and love to be around their family, children, other dogs, and even strangers!  However, it is still a good idea to always keep an eye out.  Siberian Huskies can be dominant and may attack other dogs if provoked.  Given the fact that the breed is very intelligent, they are easy to train.  They can form an association between a prompt, an action, and a consequence.  However, it is important to note that they tend to bark or howl.  Their wanderlust potential is sky high as well!

If you are looking for a dog breed that is active, intelligent, and has a high potential for playfulness… the Siberian Husky is for you!  One of our favorite quotes about the breed is: “If you’re lucky, A Husky will come into your life, steal your heart, and change everything!”
