Our spotlight breed of the week is the Golden Cavalier, a crossbreed between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Golden Retriever. As you can imagine, this crossbreed has quite the personality! The adaptability of the Golden Cavalier depends on a variety of factors. The crossbreed thrives in apartment or large home environments as long as they receive mental and physical stimulation.

If you do not live in a house with a fenced-in yard, consider an area with a dog park or lots of green space. This breed will need much exercise!

The friendliness factor of the breed is five out of five stars. This breed is one of the friendliest dogs on the block! They are affectionate with family and do well around children and other dogs.

They are even fine around strangers! We do not believe this is an ideal “guard dog” because they love to be friends with everyone.

Regardless of their instinct to be friendly, we recommend that you enroll the Golden Cavalier in basic obedience and socialization training, as this will strengthen their skills and make them more confident!

The breed is intelligent and easy to train. The Golden Cavalier can quickly associate a prompt, an action, and a consequence. We recommend incorporating positive reinforcement methods into their training sessions because they often have a “what’s in it for me?” attitude.
