Why We are Thankful for Dogs!

Why We are Thankful for Dogs!

Dogs and humans have been friends for thousands and thousands of years.  They have an amazing ability to love and understand, and it affects us in big ways!  As Thanksgiving is right around the corner, we wanted to come up with a list of reasons as to why we are thankful for our four-legged friends.

  1. It is so easy to be overwhelmed with feelings of hopelessness or despair.  Dogs give us a purpose each day.
  2. We all know that laughter is the best medicine.  Dogs can make us laugh throughout our day.  If you think about it, dogs have their own personalities and often surprise us with their silly quirks.
  3. Unconditional love. There is nothing like the love of a dog.  Materialistic things like money, clothes, cars or the newest phone do not matter to your dog.  They will always love you with their whole heart!
  4. We all want a smiling face to greet us at the end of the day when we get home from work.
  5. Stress relief. Fun fact: just petting your dog releases a feel-good chemical in your brain called Oxytocin that fights any feeling of stress that you may have.
  6. Dogs motivate their owners to do better.  You can literally look at them when you think of giving up, but you know deep down that you can never leave them.
  7. Tough times. Dogs are the light during the darkest of times.  They can help when you are dealing with the loss of a friend or family member, struggling with health conditions, or even the loss of a job.

Our list can continue to go on and I am sure yours can too!  As you can see, dogs are an especially important part of our lives as they fill a void in many different areas.  We are truly thankful that we have an opportunity to be around so many sweet and fun-loving dogs!
