Tuesday’s Treat: Doggie Bacon Bites
Welcome to our Tuesday Treat article of the week. We are excited to share a fun and healthy treat recipe for your four-legged friend! On the menu today are Doggie Bacon Bites. This is one of our favorite recipes because it is simple to make. Please share the recipe with your friends and family so other dogs can enjoy this treat too! What are you waiting on? Let’s get started!
Ingredients
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup oats
1/4 cup cooked and crumbled bacon (without added salt or seasonings)
1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/4 cup low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth
1 large egg
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and oats. Stir in the crumbled bacon, ensuring it is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
Add the applesauce, chicken or vegetable broth, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix well until a dough forms. If the dough feels too dry, you can add a little more broth or water, a tablespoon at a time.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of approximately 1/4 inch.
Use cookie cutters in your desired shapes (bones, hearts, or any other fun shapes) to cut out the treats from the dough. Place the treats onto the prepared baking sheet.
Bake the treats for about 15-20 minutes or until they turn golden brown and become firm to the touch.
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the treats to cool completely on a wire rack.
Once cooled, store the bacon dog treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. You can also freeze them for longer shelf life.
