Spotlight Breed: Puli  

Welcome to our Spotlight Breed article of the week.  This is where we feature one of the most interesting dog breeds of the world.  Today we are featuring the Puli dog breed!  This breed is best known for their long, corded coat which resembles a mop.  If we had to note three of the most unique features of this dog breed, we would choose energetic, hardworking, and loving.  However, there are so many more items to note!

The Puli will not have any problems being the center of attention in your home.  They have high self-confidence and intelligence and are super affectionate.  Please know that novice dog owners may not be the best fit as the Puli has a high amount of energy which requires a lot of mental and physical stimulation.  The Puli’s highly sensitive, independent way of thinking, and assertive attitude may be hard for a first-time dog parent to manage.

The Puli is an overly friendly breed.  They are affectionate with family, kids, and other dogs.  However, they are normally shy towards strangers.  Often, they can be shy, indifferent, or aggressive towards new people.  Socialization will play a crucial role in friendliness around strangers.  One of the greatest things about the Puli is that they are one of the healthiest breeds out there.  This breed is not prone to many genetic health problems or illnesses.

This breed may be challenging to train at first.  You will need to be patience and practice consistency.  The Puli is very smart, but they can be stubborn too.  They may adapt a “what’s in it for me” attitude.  You will need to incorporate rewards and games to teach them to comply with your requests.  Please be aware that the Puli has a high wanderlust potential.  They will take off after anything that catches your attention!
