Many people do not realize that certain houseplants can be highly toxic to dogs. While these plants are safe for humans, they can be deathly to our four-legged friends. Although we are outlining house plants in this article, we must also remember outdoor plants (tulips and oleander are huge culprits). Before you bring a new plant into the house, you must research the impact that it can have on your pet. Check out our list below, which outlines some of the most poisonous house plants for dogs.

Ivy – This plant can cause excessive drooling, abdominal pain, and vomiting.

Peace Lily – This plant can cause intense oral irritation and difficulty swallowing.

Jade – This plant can cause a slow heart rate and depression.

Aloe Vera – This plant can cause diarrhea in vomiting.

Cycas Revoluta – This plant can cause liver failure, seizures, and lethargy.

Philodendron – This plant can cause skin irritation.

Dieffenbachia – This plant can cause severe swelling and burning of the mouth.

Many more plants are toxic to dogs. However, we wanted to point out some of the most common plants to consider. We do not want to stop you from purchasing your favorite house plant if you are a plant person. If you decide to get a house plant that is toxic to your dog, be proactive in ensuring that the plant is out of your dog’s reach. You do not want to take any chances, especially if you notice that some of these plants can be deadly to dogs!
