Laser Pointers & Dogs – What Are the Risks

Laser Pointers & Dogs – What Are the Risks?

Thinking outside the box is great when creating fun and exciting activities for our four-legged friends. Some dog owners love to incorporate laser pointers in their playtime sessions with their dogs.

This activity can be fun, but honestly, it poses a lot of dangerous risks. We do not believe that laser pointers and dogs are a good mix, and we will tell you why.

Laser pointers can cause destructive behaviors. We know this sounds odd, but it’s true. If your dog becomes obsessed with the light, it may try to attack the place where it saw it last! Your dog will always look for the little red dot, and your floors, furniture, and whatever else may become a victim!

In addition, laser pointers can cause eye damage for humans and animals alike. This is because a laser beam is highly concentrated and can hurt the vision of pets. Furthermore, laser play increases the risk of an accident because your dog moves around quickly.

Finally, your four-legged friend may become obsessed with the laser.

This is especially true for dogs that are bred to herd and hunt.

Playing with a laser pointer inhibits instincts. You must understand that a dog can never catch the red light beam. Therefore, they will never obtain a reward for their efforts. It is borderline teasing if you want our honest opinion!

Laser pointers may be fun, but they are not ideal for pets. We hope you understand that laser pointers can cause more harm than good. The good news is that there are other things you can do to stimulate your pet mentally and physically. Try a game of fetch or teach your dog a new trick. The possibilities are endless!
