Tips on How to Wash Pet Bedding

Your dog’s bed (or even your own mattress) carry a lot of germs.  Not to mention, you are always at risk of being infected with fleas if you do not properly wash bedding.  We are here to help!  The following tips and techniques will help you know how and what to wash dog bedding with.

First, you must ensure that you are able to wash your pet bed.  Is it too big to fit into the washer?  What type of fabric is the bedding made of?  These are all things to consider.  Depending on the size of the bed, you will be able to utilize your bathtub for cleaning.  One of the easiest and cheapest substances used for cleaning your dog’s bed is distilled white vinegar or apple cider vinegar.  These both do a great job of pretreating stains, softening water and boosting regular laundry detergents.

Another good tip is to use baking soda.  This is a super powerful substance which is great for odor-absorbing.  You can also mix it with water to create a paste to clean your dog’s crate.  Lemon juice can also work wonders!  The magic of lemon juice is that it contains enzymes and substances that break down fats and oils.  There are many different washing detergents out there specifically for pet beds.  Our advice is that you go for a detergent that does not use abrasive compounds.

All the items mentioned above can be mixed with water to create a formula which will help clean your pet bedding to its fullest potential.  The amounts of each product that you use will depend on the size of the bedding.  You will have to conduct research to find the best solution!
